THE EXPERIENCE
Rhythm,
Elevated.
Wula is a premier West African drum and dance ensemble presenting the traditional music and dance of Guinea with the artistry of a world-class stage company.
Rich djembe and dundun rhythms meet dynamic, commanding dance in an immersive performance that brings unforgettable energy to events. The ensemble is led by M'Bemba Bangoura, a master drummer celebrated internationally and a veteran of Ballet Djoliba, Guinea's national drum and dance company. Wula was founded and is directed by Michael Markus, a classically trained percussionist who has dedicated his life to this rich musical tradition. Over more than two decades, Wula has become one of the most distinguished voices in traditional West African music in the United States.
Every note is played on Wula's own drums, handcrafted in Guinea and considered among the finest in North America. That same commitment to excellence guides everything Wula does, with a mission to share this tradition at the highest level while supporting fair wages and sustainable livelihoods for the artists and craftspeople behind it. Inviting Wula to your event brings your guests a rare cultural experience of genuine authenticity and uncommon refinement.
